Safe Technology held the 6th fe-safe™ International User Group Meeting on Wednesday June 8th, 2011, at Michigan State University, Management Education Center, MI, USA. The meeting was followed on Thursday June 9th by a Feature Focus day taking a “deep dive” into the new features of the eagerly anticipated release, fe-safe™ 6.
The event was a great success, bringing together the fe-safe™ user community with soon-to-be fe-safe™ users and representatives from partner organisations. It was also an opportunity to introduce the newest Safe Technology team members to our user base: Dr Anders Winkler, an expert in FEA, material modelling and testing and polymers joins the Technical Applications team and Cagatay Serin, with a background in Matlab & Simulink joins the Business Development team.
The standard of presentations and papers from partners and users was extremely high, providing another technically advanced and highly valuable day. We were delighted to welcome Professor Ali Fatemi as this year's esteemed keynote speaker with a paper on Multiaxial Fatigue. Professor Fatemi has been on the faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toledo since 1987, where he is also the Director of The Fatigue and Fracture Research Laboratory. With 130 refereed articles and co-authorship of the textbook, "Metal Fatigue in Engineering" (2000), Professor Fatemi is internationally recognized for his contributions to the fields of multiaxial fatigue and the fatigue of materials. His presentation was equally well received by both those who had not previously heard him speak and by those audience members who were ex-Fatemi students and who are now fe-safe™ users.
User presentations covered the application of fe-safe™ across a range of industries, applications and research area such as the fatigue analysis of coronary artery stents, the application of the Critical Distance theory on a notched CGI component, the examination of the differences in testing Polymers and Metals and the effects of overload on fatigue life. Internal presentations focused on new features in the new release, fe-safe™ 6, by Safe Technology engineers.
The Feature Focus Day on Thursday June 9th provided a more informal environment for sharing information and stimulating discussion on key areas of the newly-released fe-safe™ 6, with presentations, demos and discussions on some of the key features of the new release from members of Safe Technology’s support and development team.
